Long term Greek language course in Greece, winter 2025

Intensive Greek language courses lasting 8 weeks minimum within the period of time January – April 2025. It is aimed at students of all levels. Small classes are formed from 2 to 4 students / class. If necessary, private lessons can also be given (one student – one teacher) but we cannot enroll a student in a private lesson from the beginning. Small classes guarantee group homogeneity. In addition, for the best homogeneity of the group, before confirming your registration we will need to have a short online meeting to see together your Greek skills and plan the curriculum.

Duration

Lessons are given for one and a half hours (90 minutes) every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings (9:00 – 10:30 or 11:00 – 12:30). There are no classes on Wednesdays and weekends. There are also no classes on March 25th, as March 25th is a national holiday. Students get homework after each lesson, which they should work on for another two hours at least, before the next lesson.

Is it an intensive Greek language course?

The course is intensive. There is no break, also the “one and a half hours” are real 90 minutes, not “teaching hours”. Language schools give their program in teaching hours, which means 45 minutes/hour. 90 minutes of teaching is 2 teaching hours. In addition to this, our lessons are challenging because students are constantly engaged in trying to practice the vocabulary and grammar structures they learn each time. For this purpose we use a wide variety of language games, both to consolidate grammar and vocabulary. During the lesson, the students do not attend lectures about the use of the language by the teacher. Instead for 90 minutes they speak using the grammar and vocabulary they learn, and are corrected by the teacher.

Activities

We try to have our students participate in activities and events that happen in Ikaria during the winter. If you come to our long term courses in winter, you will dance in traditional dance lessons with locals, have fun at winter festivals (panigiria), participate in traditions such as the carnival of Evdilos. Also some activities will be organized by the Center weekly, such as film screenings, cooking evenings and hikes in the mountains of the area when the weather permits.

Local transportation

Public transport in Ikaria is not well organized. For your trips for shopping, exploring the island, etc., you can use a car of the Center that is available to the whole group of students and residents. You can drive the car alone or go somewhere together with other students and residents of the Center. The car is automatic (no manual gear stick). You can also use a taxi, although the taxi is relatively expensive. A visit to the nearby port of Evdilos, for shopping or a coffee will cost you around 30 Euros for the taxi fare, including the return.

Cost

406€ / week
(58€/day + 6€/day if you share your room with your fellow traveler who is not a student)

The cost covers accommodation in a private room for one person, course materials, participation in activities organized by the Center (hikes, film screenings, discussions, cooking evenings, etc.) and free use of the Center’s car, however the cost of the fuel is paid by the students.

Food

We can also organize simple meals (lunch and dinner) Monday to Friday (except weekends) at an additional cost of 100 Euro per week, if there is also interest from other tenants / students who will be in the center at the same time. Breakfast is not served, however you can prepare your own breakfast in the kitchenette of your room, or in the commune kitchen of the facilities.

Accommodation

You will have a special room in the Center’s guest house , next to the lecture halls. The room has heating for the winter. Follow the link for more information about the rooms and life at the guesthouse

If a friend will visit me?

You can host a friend in your room who will visit you for a while, you can also come with a fellow traveler who will stay with you throughout the whole period. There may be an additional cost related to the use of the car and meals if you choose to have meals at the Center.

Check availability and submit your registration using the form below. We won’t ask for your credit card number during registration, nor will you have to pay anything.

Confirmation: We will be able to confirm that the course will take place when the minimum number of registrations is reached or by mid-October. If the minimum enrollment is not met by mid-October, the guesthouse will not open for the winter term, and the course will be cancelled.

All costs must be paid by the end of October. There are no refunds if you cancel your participation for any reason after the end of October, but you can participate in one of our programs during the same or the following year.
