Do I have to rend a car in Ikaria?

From April 1st to November 30th you MUST NOT rent a car in Ikaria, as the Center organizes free local transfers for the hostel residents to the surrounding settlements and the sea, for shopping and swimming in the sea. But if you want to explore the island, you will need to rent a car for the whole period of your stay or for a few days. From July 15 to September 15 you must have reserved the car several weeks in advance. During the rest of the year you can find a car after your arrival on the island, if you think it is necessary. Some car rental agencies are shown here. The cost is around 25 Euros per day (it goes up to 55 Euros from 15 July to 15 September). You can also use a taxi, but it will probably cost you more.

If you stay at our hostel from December 1st to March 31st, you will have at your disposal, together with other guests in the Center, a car for your local transportation

There is no organized public bus transport in Ikaria, but you can use taxis if you don’t want to rend / drive a car.
